Kyneton is a town in the Macedon Ranges Shire around 65 kilometres south of Bendigo. The town was named after the English village of Kyneton, Warwickshire and has a population of around 9,000 people.

Water Supply
Coliban System (Southern) - supplies Castlemaine, Kyneton, Maldon, Newstead, Malmsbury, Harcourt, Elphinstone, Tylden and Taradale. Raw water is supplied by our Coliban River catchment storages: Upper Coliban, Lauriston and Malmsbury Reservoirs, located near Kyneton and the Coliban River.

Water is treated at the Kyneton Water Treatment Plant.
The Water Treatment Process (PDF 43KB) includes micro filtration, flocculation, ozonation, BAC filtration, pH correction, fluoridation and disinfection.

Sewage is treated at the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant (WRP).
What happens at the water reclamation plant
The WRP produces treated Class B recycled water that's used to irrigate local farmland, the Kyneton racecourse, sports grounds and botanic gardens as well as the extensive irrigation system onsite at the WRP.
In April 2024, one of the agreed outcomes between the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and Coliban Water regarding the new Operating Licence for the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) was that a range of water quality and river flow data would be made available to the public via our website. This data can be found here.
