  Bendigo

We are completing a large-scale water mains cleaning program from 16 November 2026 to 26 February 2027.

The free chlorination cleaning program will be completed across the Bendigo drinking water network which includes Marong, Huntly, Raywood, Sebastian and Axedale as well as Bendigo and its suburbs.

Normally, we use a treatment process called chlorimination (which uses chlorine and ammonia) to treat drinking water. Free chlorination uses only chlorine used to treat drinking water.

These works will not affect the pressure or flow of customers’ water supply. It involves changing the usual water treatment process at the Bendigo Water Treatment Plant to ensure ongoing good network health and help maintain chlorine residual in the network.

You water remains safe for you to drink.

Customers may notice a change in the taste and odour of the water. If you are sensitive to chlorine, you may choose to pass your drinking water through a purifier or filter. You can also fill a jug and place it in the fridge for ten minutes as this will remove the taste of chlorine.

We encourage dialysis patients to discuss this water supply change with their dialysis provider.

If you need to refill an aquarium during this period with tap water, please be aware there will be more chlorine present than usual.
