With the Echuca Water Tower no longer part of the town’s water supply, we have moved to the next stage - the careful and safe removal of the structure. This is a large and complex project. Works began on Tuesday 9 June and are expected to continue through to late-November 2026.
Because of the tower’s location, temporary road closures are required and in place on parts of High Street and Pakenham Street near the site. These closures began Monday 15 June and are expected to remain in place until late-November.
Works are being carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm, and occasionally on Saturdays between 7am and 3pm.
Pedestrian exclusion zones, traffic management, and temporary road closures are in place to ensure safety.
If you're passing the tower, you may see road closures, signage and temporary fencing. Please follow any instructions provided to ensure your safety.
What to expect next?
Initial works have involved building a freestanding scaffold structure to assist with the removal of the tower. The external scaffold structure is now complete and has reached the top of the tower. Internal scaffold and supports have also been installed and the steel roof structure and the external ladder have been removed.
Concrete core drilling has begun, with concrete cutting and removal expected to begin from Tuesday 4 August.
The tower will be deconstructed using a crane and concrete cutting techniques to carefully dismantle the tower in sections. Each section will be lowered safely to the ground for removal, crushing and recycling. The lower two levels of the tower will then be demolished and removed. Foundation removal and site reinstatement works will follow.
