  Cohuna

A Boil Water Advisory remains in place for Cohuna and surrounding areas following a burst water main near the corner of King George Street and Cohuna Island Road. While repairs to the burst are now complete, customers are advised their drinking water is not safe to consume unless it has been boiled.

You can view the area impacted by the Boiled Water Advisory here.

What you need to do

Customers should boil their drinking water before use until further notice by heating the water until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle. Kettles with automatic cut-off switches are suitable. Variable temperature kettles should be set to boil.

After heating, water must be allowed to cool before use. It can also be stored in a clean, closed container for later use. Care should be taken to avoid scalding injuries especially around children.

Boiled water can be used for:
•    drinking
•    preparing beverages
•    washing and preparing food
•    preparing baby formula
•    brushing teeth
•    making ice

Unboiled water can be used for washing your hands, showering and bathing, flushing toilets, washing clothes and dishes (ensure dry before use), and garden watering. Ensure water is not ingested whilst bathing.

Drinking water trailer locations

If you would like an alternative source of water, drinking water trailers are available at the Gateway Visitor Centre, 90 King George Street and at the Cohuna Bowls Club, 23 Tennis Road.

Residents are encouraged to bring suitable containers to collect drinking water.

Next steps

The burst water main has been repaired and our crews are now flushing the network to draw fresh water through the system. Customers may notice low water pressure or cloudy water during this process. Cloudiness is typically caused by air in the pipes and should improve as flushing continues.

Following flushing, water quality testing will be completed before the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted. The advisory is expected to remain in place for a few days.
