Water Supply

Elmore (groundwater) - only supplies the town of Elmore. Raw water is supplied from 2 groundwater bores. Goulburn-Murray Water manages the raw water supply. Elmore is within the Lower Campaspe Valley Groundwater Management Area, Elmore Rochester Zone.

Water Treatment

Water is treated at the Elmore Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Process (PDF 43KB) includes pH correction and UV disinfection.

Wastewater

In Elmore, wastewater is managed through a Septic Tank Effluent Disposal (STED) system.

Each property has its own septic tank. Wastewater from homes flows first into this tank, where solid waste settles and is held onsite. This is important because the local sewer network is designed to carry liquid effluent only and cannot transport or treat solid waste.

Once the solids are retained in the septic tank, the remaining liquid effluent flows into the sewer network and is transported for treatment.

Because septic tanks remain an essential part of the system in Elmore:

  • Customers are responsible for arranging and paying for their own septic tank pump outs and maintenance.
  • To recognise this, customers receive a sewer rebate of $124 per year, which is automatically applied to their account.

This approach ensures wastewater is managed safely and effectively while reflecting the unique needs of the Elmore system.

Sewage is treated at the Elmore Water Reclamation Plant.
Treated sewage is disposed of on-site. Solid waste is stored at the plant within the lagoon system until it can be used on land.

Development within the Lockington and Elmore catchment areas must meet specific design requirements to suit our STED sewer system.
