Improvements to the Laanecoorie water supply network will take place in the form of water mains cleaning from this Monday 1 April.

Manager Customer Operations Steve Dunlop said the three-week program will focus on four towns west of Bendigo - Laanecoorie, Bealiba, Dunolly and Tarnagulla.

“Customers in these towns have been notified by mail of the upcoming works, which will interrupt their water supply for approximately four to five hours at the most during the hours of 9am and 5pm.

“We have advised customers of the exact time and day on which the cleaning will take place in their area, to ensure they can prepare in advance for the water supply interruption.

“There will not be an impact on water quality. Some customers may notice a temporary chlorine taste or odour once water supply has been restored, but at all times the water will be safe to drink,” Mr Dunlop said.

The works are part of a wider program of annual cleaning works which maintain the integrity of the region’s water supply network by removing any sediment built up and ensuring good disinfection levels.

This year, the network will see more than 130 kilometres of water mains cleaned across the region – almost the distance from Bendigo to Melbourne.

All drinking water is treated to a standard that meets the requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and Victoria’s Safe Drinking Water Act.

“The technique we use involves forcing a mixture of compressed air and water into the mains, called ‘air scouring’.

“Discolouration can sometimes occur due to the air scouring, and if it does, we advise customers to run their taps until the water becomes clear.

“Anyone who may have questions about the upcoming program of works is welcome to phone us to find out more,” Mr Dunlop said.
