A major sewer renewal program is set to kick off in Bendigo this week.
Manager Infrastructure Corey Bourne said the works on High Street, Creek Street North and Short Street will improve sewer service reliability.
“Our contractor, Interflow, will work at night so we can minimise impact to customers, business and traffic during the works period,” Mr Bourne said.
The project will begin Wednesday 6 November and is due to be complete by the end of the month.
Contractors will be using a trenchless technique, which eliminates the need for contractors to excavate.
“Trenchless renewal techniques reduce the impact on customers’ sewer service and damage to nature strips, driveways, vegetation and roads, with small pits dug into the nature strip and repaired once complete.
The technique involves relining the pipe with a spiral bound PVC that restores the structural integrity and reliability of the sewer main.
“The ongoing renewal of sewer mains across our region is an integral part of our operations to ensure we maintain and deliver services to customers.
“We inspect sewer mains by feeding through a CCTV camera. The footage is then reviewed to identify sections of the main that have been damaged and need to be renewed,” Mr Bourne said.
There are 1,957 kilometres of sewer mains in the Coliban Water region, which is the equivalent distance from Bendigo to Alice Springs.
In the 2018/2019 year we renewed a total of 139 sewer main sections, which is equivalent to 7.9 kilometres of sewer main.
There will be no interruption to sewer services during the course of the works unless otherwise advised.
“Local residents have been notified and may experience increased noise or odour, we apologise for the inconvenience,” Mr Bourne said.
