We’re planning essential maintenance works at the Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant in Langslow Street between February and May.
These works include the cleaning and maintenance of the equipment that treats wastewater from customers in Castlemaine, Chewton, Campbells Creek, Newstead, Maldon and Harcourt.
During this work, there is a chance of increased odour and noise - we will do our best to minimise these impacts.
Completing these works will improve the reliability and day-to-day operations of the plant. The table below outlines the schedule of works we have planned.
Type of work | What are we doing? | When |
---|---|---|
Aeration tank maintenance |
Aeration tanks ensure the treatment process can happen by forcing air through the wastewater. To complete the work, we need to empty these tanks to allow our team to access the bottom of the tank and repair, maintain and replace necessary parts. |
Sunday 23 February until Thursday 6 March between 7am and 6pm. You may see a crane onsite during the works, and you may notice noise and more traffic in the area. |
ATADs inspection |
Our Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion system turns sewage sludge into a valued biosolids product for agricultural reuse. It will take two days to drain the three tanks and another three days to clean and inspect them. |
We will complete a clean and inspection of our ATAD system from Tuesday 11 to Monday 17 March between 7am and 6pm on weekdays. |
DAF tank maintenance |
The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) tanks help thicken sludge from the treatment process so it can go to the ATADs. Works will include cleaning and inspecting both tanks and replacing the chute that removes thickened sludge from the DAF tanks. We will also re -coat the steel lining and clean the rest of the tanks. |
Between March and May, we will complete maintenance works the DAF tanks at the plant. Works on the first DAF tank will be from Tuesday 11 March to Friday 4 April. Works on the second DAF tank will be from Friday 11 April to Tuesday 13 May 2025. |
We encourage you to call us on 1300 363 200 to report odour. The more we receive these reports, the more we can build a picture of the areas of our plant that need the most urgent attention.
