Planned works and interruptions

As a result some disruption to service and traffic interruptions may occur. We try and keep these to a minimum and where possible provide advance notice in local newspapers, on this website and by direct mail.

We have not listed all our current planned works below; just the works that may impact customers from traffic or service interruptions.

The information is as up-to-date as possible but is subject to change at short notice. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We have changed the way we treat the Castlemaine water supply network, in order to improve disinfection and maintain chlorine residuals across the entire supply network.

The treatment method is known as free chlorination, or chlorination. The chlorination treatment method itself is not a trial, it is a tried and tested treatment method. We have been trialling the effectiveness of this method in the Castlemaine water supply network.
The water is safe to drink and meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) about the program.

We are holding an information session for Castlemaine customers to come and speak with our staff about the program from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday 22 January 2019 at the Ray Bradfield room in Forest Street, Castlemaine.

Water usage, Campbells Creek Campbells Creek, (between discharge point on Langslow Street until where creek meets Loddon River) Tuesday 23 October 2018 until further notice

Our Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant experienced some treatment issues in October 2018 that saw lower quality water discharged to Campbells Creek.

These issues have since been resolved and the plant is now operating as normal.

Coliban Water is a major contributor to the flows in Campbells Creek. It's important to note other sources of water quality risk also exist.

These impacts may include stormwater contamination following a large rain event, septic tank discharges, erosion, and contamination from the faeces of stock and other animals.

Although water discharged to Campbells Creek meets Coliban Water's licence conditions, the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) recommends people avoid direct contact or ingestion of water from Campbells Creek.
