Kinetic Catchment

Kinetic Catchment is a hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activity that engages students in a real-life, problem solving exercise.

As students take on the role of engineers, they gain an appreciation for how their own water is delivered.

Using small coloured straws on a kinetic sand landscape, students work in teams to design three water systems for a hypothetical community.

Each team must minimise costs and consider environmental planning guidelines while ‘constructing’ potable (drinking) water, sewerage and recycled water systems.
