The garden was established in 1993 by the City of Greater Bendigo, with the assistance of Coliban Water and the Australian Open Garden Scheme. It has been planted with a wide range of plants, and aims to demonstrate that a waterwise garden can be attractive, colourful and practical.
The design is based on the size of an average residential allotment and takes into account the local climatic conditions, topography, soil type and waterwise garden principles
