Drinking Water and Water Quality

> Our region's water supplies

Raw water is sourced from nine individual systems the Coliban Northern, Coliban Southern, Campaspe, Wimmera, Loddon, Goulburn, Murray, Groundwater Elmore and Groundwater Trentham.

We have 37 reservoirs and service basins (three of which are operated by our business partner) and 19 water treatment plants (three of which are operated by our business partner) which provide potable (drinking) water to 45 town supply zones with a population of approximately 160,000.

> Potable (drinking) water

We report on compliance of potable (drinking) water supply systems in our Annual Report.

> Non potable (un-treated) water

Seven towns in our region are supplied with non potable (un-treated) water, with no treatment processes in place before water is supplied to customers.

These townships are: Borung, Dingee, Jarklin, Macorna, Mitiamo, Mysia, and Wychitella.

Receiving a non potable supply means that the water is not suitable for human consumption (ie drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth or ice making purposes).

In the event of poor raw water quality, the water should also not be used for personal hygiene purposes - such as bathing or showering.

For further information read our non potable water supply brochure.

> Safe Drinking Water Act 2003

> Australian Drinking Water Guidelines

The 2011 Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) was developed by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in collaboration with the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council (NRMMC).

The ADWG incorporates the "Framework for the Management of Drinking Water Quality" and provides the Australian community and the water supply industry with guidance on what constitutes good quality drinking water.
