> The Project
The upgrade to the Tooborac storage facility involves the installation of two 60 kilolitres water storage tanks and the construction of a sodium hypochlorite disinfection system with remote monitoring and control.
The project also involves the construction of an access road and erection of security and stock fencing on site.
> Project background
Tooborac is 17 kilometres south of Heathcote and has a population of around 277.
The town's water supply is pumped from the Heathcote Water Treatment Plant.
The water supply from Heathcote needs additional chlorine added as the chlorine residual deteriorates before it reaches the Tooborac storage tank.
The current assets on site are old and outdated, with no remote alarm monitoring system in place.
> Chlorine dosing and monitoring
A chlorine residual analyser determines the amount of chlorine in the water being pumped to the Tooborac water storage.
This information is used to automatically adjust the flow rate of chlorine delivered.
In the event of high or low chlorine residual being detected the dosing unit shuts down and initiates an alarm to ensure we can maintain a potable water supply for customers.
> Cost and timeline
The project cost is $700,000. Works commenced on site in February 2011 and will be completed early 2012.
