> The Project
A 2.3 tonne, $60,000 valve was added to Bendigo’s major water main to improve water security for the local community.
The valve is an important piece of operating infrastructure and provides greater flexibility on how the system is operated as the city’s population continues to grow.
The project was months in the planning to avoid any interruptions to customer supply.
The works were planned to take place during the winter when customer demand is lowest to ensure alternative supply arrangements provided contingency in supply should something not go as planned.
Before cutting the main for the new valve, the operation of the water supply system was altered and system pressures and flows checked.
We took advantage of the shutdown to carry out a variety of other works in Crusoe, Mitchell, Wesley and Helm Streets in Kangaroo Flat along the same section of water main.
Pump, air valve and scour works were carried out on 14 other sites.
> Timeline
This project involved three days of construction from Tuesday 19 July to Thursday 21 July for the installation of the main valve in Helm Street, Kangaroo Flat, with final works continuing through the weekend.
