Eppalock to Sandhurst Augmentation

Community and Environment

> Landholder consultation

The project team was in regular contact with all landowners whose properties lie along the duplicated sections of the pipeline during the project.

The Contractor maintained regular contact with landholders during construction. Key issues included identification of preferred access points into properties, methods to minimise disturbance to land, and methods to minimise impacts on the environment during construction.

> Consultation with project stakeholders

The project team consulted with many stakeholders to ensure the project was undertaken appropriately.  This included discussions and approvals from government authorities, including the Department of Planning and Community Development, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Greater Bendigo City Council, North Central Catchment Management Authority, Parks Victoria, Aboriginal Affairs Victoria, and the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

Coliban Water also actively engaged with community groups and landowners.

> Results of Survey Investigations

Investigations were carried out along stage 1, 2A and 2B for flora, fauna, cultural heritage, topography and geological surveys.

The investigations found that the environment covered by these surveys includes cleared agricultural land, roadside verges, and Regional Park. Stage 1 of the construction is within the Bendigo Regional Park.

Part of the Stage 1 area (Bendigo Regional Park) contains endangered flora and fauna species, specifically the threatened Brown’s Toadlet and nationally endangered Swift Parrot. However the ecologists have determined that with the appropriate mitigation measures planned for the project, the construction works will not threaten any of these species.
