Standpipes in the Coliban Water Region

Standpipes dispense water for private and commercial water carters.

A Water Carters Permit is required to take water from a standpipe.

Customers using standpipes in the Greater Bendigo area must also apply to Coliban Water for an Avdata access key.

 

> How much is the water?

Potable water from a Coliban Water standpipe is $2 per 1000 litres ($2 per 1 kilolitre).

> Water Carter Permits

A water carter permit is required to take water from a public standpipe if the standpipe is in an area under Water Restrictions By-Law No10.

If your application is approved you will be sent a permit to fix to the windscreen of your vehicle, along with a permit card which must be presented on request by an officer of Coliban Water.

 

> How to apply for a Water Carters Permit

There are two types of Water Carters Permits: Private and Commercial .

Private Water Carters have the option of a pre-paid key or a monthly account key.

Commercial Water Carters are set up with a monthly account and may also need to be registered with the local council (please see below Department of Human Services – Food Safety).

> Recycled Water

We have two Recycled Water Standpipes: Avery’s Road, Eaglehawk and Stanley Street, Spring Gully.

Recycled water from these standpipes is $1.50 per 1000 Litres.

> Traffic Management Plans

We have Traffic Management Plans for all the open standpipes sites managed by us. It is a requirement that these plans are studied prior to entering or using the site.

Please contact the relevant local council for traffic management plans for standpipes that are not managed by Coliban Water.

> Permitted Uses Of Water

All water taken from standpipes (public or private) must be used in accordance with any water restrictions in force at the time for the supply system to which the standpipe is connected.

> Department of Human Services – Food Safety

The Department of Human Services Food Safety Unit has Guidelines for Drinking (potable) Water Transport in Victoria.

It is a requirement under the Food Act 1984 that any commercial or private business carting water for human consumption or a purpose connected with human consumption must register with their local council.

> Enforcement of Water Carter Permits

Our Water Enforcement Team visits standpipes on a regular basis to monitor the use of the site and to educate water carters on approved uses for water taken from a standpipe.

We may also conduct random audits to ensure water is being taken and used appropriately. We appreciate your co-operation in ensuring the requirements of the By-Law are met.
