Water Trading Pilot 2009/10

> Background

We have extended our Water Trading Pilot for the 2009/10 season to ease the impacts of drought on the community.

Eligible councils, community groups and commercial customers will be able to buy temporary water on the open market and have it delivered through Coliban Water infrastructure.

Last season's 2008/09 Water Trading Pilot delivered 291.5 megalitres of water to 37 customers throughout our region.

It benefitted local sporting clubs, councils, schools, agriculture enterprises and car wash businesses.

We have extended the pilot for 2009/10 to include a Rural Water Trading Pilot for existing customers on the Eppalock Pipeline.

Eppalock Pipeline 2009/10

We worked with the Eppalock Pipeline Community Working Group on a process to allow temporary trading of water from the Goulburn system for the 2009/10 season.

Our Water Trading Pilot has been extended to include existing rural licence holders on the Eppalock Pipeline

This will allow 79 customers, currently on a zero rural season allocation, the opportunity to access some water.

Requirements include:

> the availability of infrastructure to deliver the water directly to where it is being used

> ensuring that the supply of water will have no impact on other customers

> trading is on a full cost recovery basis

Participating customers pay for everything including the cost of the water purchased and all other associated costs including pumping.
