Identifying Inefficiences and Opportunities for water savings
Once you know how much water is used at your site, the next step is to work out how much water is used in different parts of your site such as:
- Cooling towers;
- Taps showers, toilets and urinals;
- Washdown equipment;
- Sterilising equipment;
- Production process;
- Irrigation;
- Other uses. |
| There are many ways to work out how much water is used in each of these processes such as submetering (installation of water meters servicing each use), estimating water use in batch processes (such as toilet flushes or vat cleanouts etc) or timing processes and determining the flow rate (this can be as simple as determining how long it takes for the process water to fill up a 10L bucket). |
| Once you’ve determined how much water is used by each process and how much this costs (including cost of water, waste water services and chemicals used in the process), you can work out what water conservation measures to implement. |
