The entrance upgrade will improve occupational health and safety concerns at the site and also meet new Council and VicRoads conditions.
General Manager Infrastructure, Dr Dharma Dharmabalan said there were issues with vehicles entering and leaving the plant.
“At present access to the plant from the road is quite narrow, making it difficult for trucks and cars to safely enter and exit the plant to the Heathcote-Redesdale Road.
“The upgrade works will create a wider shoulder on the side of the road, allowing vehicles to turn from the road prior to the plant’s driveway,” Dr Dharmabalan said.
Global Contracting Pty Ltd has been appointed to complete the works which will commence Monday 23 April and are expected to be completed by Friday 11 May 2012.
Dr Dharmabalan said whilst the project will not impact on customer water services, some minor traffic interruptions will occur during work hours.
“Traffic management will be in place between Armstrong Street and Sailors Gully Court on the Heathcote-Redesdale Road, with one lane in operation between 7am and 6pm.
“Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to residents,” Dr Dharmabalan said.
Residents near the water treatment plant will receive further information via post this week.
