Media Information Statement - Sewer Spill in Browning Street, Kangaroo Flat. 8/01/2010
Approximately 25,000 litres of sewerage spilled into a 500 metre section of Bendigo Creek last night as a result of an overflow from a sewer manhole. There was no water in Bendigo Creek at the time of the spill.

IN BRIEF

Time:

7/1/2010

9.15pm - Coliban Water notified of spill

9.40pm - Coliban Water staff on site.

10.15pm - EPA notified. Overflow contained with sandbags

10.30pm - Cause of spill removed. Suction trucks on site to remove sewerage

12.00am - Staff finish on site to continue at 8.00am in daylight hours

8/1/2010

8.00am - Coliban Water staff on site to continue work

9.50am - EPA staff arrive and inspect site

Final clean up expected by late this afternoon.

Location:

Browning Street, Kangaroo Flat.

Cause of spill:

Blockage (fat), rubbish and minor tree roots.

Customers:

No customers were impacted. The EPA was on site today to inspect spill management – course of action agreed by both Coliban Water and EPA.
