Managing Director Gavin Hanlon said Coliban Water had been working with the City of Greater Bendigo and the Bushfire Recovery Committee as part of the recovery effort.
“This funding is part of the $750,000 needed for the entire scheme, the rest of the funding has been contributed by government funding through the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority,” Mr Hanlon said.
“These properties had septic tanks but are now too small to comply with Council’s system requirements and are required to connect into our sewer system,” Mr Hanlon said.
“Infrastructure does not currently exist to allow them to connect so our funding will allow sewer mains to be built to assist these customers to connect without being financially burdened,” he said.
Mr Hanlon said design work for the new infrastructure was well underway in the three areas impacted.
“Construction will be commence in the Empire Road area by February next year to be ready for the first properties issued with building permits to connect into the system.”
Construction in all three areas is expected to be complete by May next year.
The works will include the design and construction of 2.9 kilometres of sewer mains and six small pumping stations for properties that are unable to connect to the system by gravity.
