Flood Recovery and Readiness

We are continuing to do works to minimise impacts of heavy rain and flooding on our water and sewer services in the region.

Since January 2011’s one-in-200-year flood event, more than $2 million of recovery works have been carried out.

> Rochester

In Rochester we have been spent $900,000 so far on flood response and recovery works.

A treated water storage tank was drained, cleaned out, resealed and refilled, seven sewer pump stations repaired and major electrical works carried out.

As part of a pre-existing $900,000 Water Quality Improvement Program a chemical system upgrade has been carried out and changes to the dosing system were made as a short-term preventative measure against future flooding.

Using our learning from the floods our flood response plan for the Rochester Water Treatment Plant has been updated to maximise our ability to keep the plant operating should there be future flooding.

> Bendigo

The $12.4 million Bendigo Creek Sewer Duplication project was completed four months ahead of schedule, providing an additional capacity in 6.1km of pipeline in Kangaroo Flat and Golden Square during times of extreme high rainfall events.
